New Orleans | Travel

New Orleans Travel PhotosA year and half ago, I met three lovely ladies at the Making Things Happen conference in Chapel Hill, N.C. The four of us, plus my former second shooter Emily, would go on to talk loftily about reunion trips across the country. And then we remembered that we could MAKE IT HAPPEN. Almost all of us are self-employed, and so we blocked a few July days off our calendar to travel to New Orleans, home to the talented Sarah, who was the best tour guide ever.

Yeah, it's kind of hilarious that we chose to head south during one of the muggiest times of the year (we joke that we'll be reuniting in Cleveland in January next time!), but our trip was full of all good things: company, food, historic sites, laughter, adventure. And two really cute dogs (here's one here) . :) I'm so thankful we made this happen!

What we did: Toured the French Quarter, hung out at the COOLEST coffee shop--Rue De La Course, explored Laura Plantation Where we ate: Ruby Slipper Cafe, Cafe Du Monde, Jacques-Imo's, Willie Mae's Scotch House, Juan's Flying Burrito (a favorite among the group!)

September Goals

New Orleans Books While everyone else is talking about pumpkin spice lattes and boots and scarves, I'm still thinking about warm weather and iced coffee. I'm definitely a summer girl, and while I love our four seasons, I'm OK with a little bit more summer. I'll be soaking up the very last drop of it this month … and then bring on the scarves (But not the pumpkin spice lattes. Blech.)

September Goals

  • Finish Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less and read The Short and Tragic Life of Robert Peace
  • Start Savor (guys, I'm GOING to do it this month, along with the help of …)
  • Develop a realistic morning routine (more on this later)
  • Put away the screens and enjoy a long anniversary weekend in Michigan with Nathan
  • Go on at least one bike ride
  • Re-paint our guest bedroom (I've never gotten used to the punchy blue)
  • Go through my closet and make minor changes to my fall/winter capsule wardrobe
  • Get caught up on vendor galleries (for real this time)
  • Get caught up on editing before I photograph two pretty September weddings

Cleveland Ballerina | Project Two Roll

Cleveland Art Museum Ballet PhotosYou guys, dreams do come true. I've been wanting to photograph a ballerina on location, a la the Ballerina Project, for quite some time, and the lovely Kerry of Cleveland Ballet Conservatory made it happen with Leah, one of her alums. Kerry said it best when she described Leah as "ethereal." That description couldn't be more true. Leah is a vision—so light and graceful—and capturing her beauty on film was the perfect fit for this sunrise session at the Cleveland Museum of Art.

Leah is currently a student at the University of Cincinnati in the CCM Dance program, and she'll be dancing with a ballet company in Florida this year. To say this lady is talented is a huge understatement. She's talented x 100.
